Myst

Myst is the middle of the three sisters, an artisan in Inanis's service. She draws Phantom Arts out of the Discordance to wake a weapon's true power — Soul Tempering, the craft by which an object is remade according to what it remembers.

She keeps to a secret tavern in Pangzhen, where the drinkers take her for a girl fond of lofty talk. The world, she says, is dream and illusion; perhaps she and Soul alike are nothing more than a fond dream of his own.

The Chord's Illusory Pipa is broken into head, strings and backplate, scattered across the land. With all three in hand, only she can fit it whole; once restored, it opens other Phantom barriers as well — the one at the lakeside cliff, and the one deep in the Lion Dance Hall.

She mends things from beyond the sky too. The cube the fishermen dragged out of the lake she names as something fallen from a vessel that voyages among the stars, and rebuilds it into a device that helps command the Phantom Edges.

The colored threads on the ornament the sisters made together were hers, though she found it fussy. Over a conversation with Daoist Bidi in the tavern she speaks of Soul Tempering, and of beings beyond the gods who drift among the stars — the power the Lady of the Veil leans on, she suspects, comes from beyond the sky as well.
