The Object
A hairpin of old-fashioned make, the shaft unadorned; only the pearls and jade set into it still hold a soft gleam.
At its tip is cut one small character: "Wan".
Origin
It was carefully wrapped in a handkerchief and laid before a grave. For reasons no one knows, cloth and pin now lie scattered in the dirt.
Whether "Wan" named a swordswoman, or was only a token kept to hold someone in mind, cannot be told.
