Zhou Pingzi
A Man of Pangzhen
A man of Pangzhen and Yu Ling's beloved. He had no martial skill; when her soul slipped away, the only road left to him was the climb to the summit to pray.
Who He Is
Zhou Pingzi is a man of Pangzhen, and Yu Ling is his beloved. Of her he says only one thing: it is like she has lost her soul.
He has no martial skill. Whatever he could do for her came down, in the end, to a single thing — go up the mountain and pray.
The Climb
A shrine to the Lady stands at the summit of the Mountain of Imprisonment, and it is there he goes to pray. Before he leaves he writes a letter, to be carried back to Pangzhen and put into Yu Ling's hands.
The Letter
It says very little: It was I who was useless... if there is another life, may I become a hero, fearless even in a hundred deaths, asking only to protect you. It is signed Zhou Pingzi.
The letter is later treated as his last, carried down by other hands to Pangzhen and given to a woman named Yu Ling.
