The Sanguine Line

One family, several lengths: the long blade, the paired short blades and Shadowless Edge all trace back to Sanguine.

  • Sanguine — Blood-red from hilt to tip, with not a shade of anything else on it, down to the cord wound around the guard. It is sword and blade at once: the light, straight line of a sword in form, the plunge of a heavy blade when it falls.
  • Wooden Sanguine — A plain wooden blade with no ornament on it at all.
  • Sanguine Reach — A long blade that takes both hands, a head longer than Sanguine.
  • Sanguine Twin — A pair of short-handled twin blades, one for each hand, short in the steel.
  • Blazing Edge — A long blade, Soul Tempered from Sanguine Reach, keeping the length and weight of the Sanguine line almost unchanged.
  • Infernal Rouge — A weapon Soul Tempered from Sanguine, heirloom of the Bastion of Mó.
  • Shadowless Edge — A pair of short blades, Soul Tempered from Sanguine Twin.

Paired and Dual-Wielded

Built in pairs — twin swords, hooks, axes, rings and toothed blades, one in each hand.

  • White Serpent & Crimson Viper — A pair of serpentine blades.
  • Sundering Dual Axes — A pair of short axes, one to each hand, blades short enough to be dangerous.
  • Parting Hooks — A pair of silver hooks, each shaft bent into an arc like a waning moon. They were once the weapons of Soulclaimer, an Elite Shadow Warden; the points are thin and cold, and even sheathed they do not quite keep their edge in.
  • Tianmiao · Wild Oriole — Two blades kept together: Mu Tianmiao's sword on one side, the Wild Oriole Blade on the other.
  • Baishan Stormswords — A pair of long swords, the sacred treasure of the Baishan Sect.
  • Fiend Saws — A pair of curved, serrated blades modelled on the leg blades of Jade Dancer — weapons made to be strapped to the legs, now held in Soul's hands.
  • Seamless Death — A pair of ring blades, made as a set, jade-smooth, thin and unassuming at the edge.

Long-Hafted and Heavy

Hafted or heavy enough to need both hands: polearms, the great axe, the warblade, saw blades and the spear.

  • Armybreaker — A broad-bladed polearm, long, heavy and thick in the body, built for no other purpose than breaking a formation. It was once wielded by Cavalrybane, an Elite Shadow Warden.
  • Crescent Blade — A long polearm whose blade curves like a half moon, a dragon carved along the steel.
  • Bashpole — A long shaft with a golden melon at the head: a round, heavy mace-head ridged on every face.
  • Dread Axe — A broad, thick-bladed axe with a heavy poll, more than one hand can swing it; the edge runs wide, the back is thick enough to serve as a hammer.
  • Scarlet Wraithblade — A massive dismembering blade, a grinning ogre's head carved into the hilt.
  • Juggernaut — A heavy saber, all its weight in the steel, slow off the mark and very heavy where it lands.
  • Outlaw Warblade — A warblade, broad and long, shaped to split rider and horse in one cut.
  • Bonesaw — A saw-blade with coarse, jagged teeth; the edge is not for cutting but for dragging.
  • Thunder Spear — A long spear, slender in the shaft and keen at the point.
  • Jagged Steel — A great blade, its edge broken and its rust scarred like old sores.

Light, Soft and Narrow Blades

Light, quick and narrow — a slender sword, a soft sword, a broken blade, a long saber and a bronze greatsword.

  • Wild Oriole Sword — A light, slender sword, narrow and thin in the blade, that leaves the scabbard almost without a sound. It is the Young Mistress's blade, with keenness and speed pushed as far as they go: light in the hand, yet enough to fill the air with a dazzling flurry once it is set loose.
  • Soft Snake Sword — A soft sword, supple and drifting, swaying like something alive when drawn.
  • The Fanatic's Broken Blade — A broken sword, three feet of edge left past the break, like a sentence cut off mid-clause.
  • The Fanatic's Drunken Sword — A drunken sword, restored to its full form.
  • Whiteshadow — A long blade with no shadow to it, its cold gleam like snow.
  • Tianxuan Bronze Sword — An ancient bronze sword, thick in the blade and almost bare of ornament.
  • Freezing Chaos — A blade of strange make: the edge rises with bone-biting cold and falls trailing black flame.

Uncommon Shapes and Reach

Four that ignore the usual sword template: a bone fan, a bow, a pair of gauntlets and a chain sickle.

  • The Lady's Fan — A fan of bone.
  • Feather Bow — A bow light in the body, its string thin and stubborn, drawn without much noise; short enough to carry without crowding.
  • Iron Gauntlets — A pair of iron gauntlets, one for each fist, with knuckles, backs and cuffs all solid steel.
  • Hunter's Chain Sickle — A short sickle with a long chain running from the butt of the handle, the two joined by an iron ring.

Where these overlap with Phantom Edges

Five of these are also Phantom Edges: Bashpole, Dread Axe, Feather Bow, Iron Gauntlets and Hunter's Chain Sickle. They sit in the groups above by shape; by function they belong with Phantom Edge.
